Quo Vadis?...

This was the title of the very first FN Insight piece I wrote for our newly enhanced newsletter (thank you SK Brother Bill), and in it I laid out my vision of the goals I had in taking on a leadership position in our Assembly. Quo Vadis, of course, means “Where are you going”, a saying made popular by a movie from 1951 about St. Peter in Rome. In this, my last piece for Insights, I choose to reflect on where we’ve been these past three years.

After we came back together from forced inactivity during the Pandemic, I proposed four goals for our Assembly: 1) increasing our ranks of new members, 2) increasing the number of men in our Assembly who have the new uniform, 3) re-establishing the formal Color Corp of Sir Knights in the new uniform and 4) reinitiating a“Corporate” (now Knight’s) Mass.

I am pleased to reflect that, together, we’ve made significant progress in accomplishing three of these goals, leaving only the first as unfinished. This first, very essential goal, I now pass on to our new FN Dr. Skip Boyd with the hope that we can find strategies for meeting it.

I am hopeful that the theme of my time in leadership has been perceivable as service to others. These last three years of my service to the Assembly will be among my happiest of memories. Not necessarily because of the work we’ve accomplished (and we’ve certainly done a lot as an Assembly), but because we were togeth-er when we worked. That fraternity and unity, two of the essential elements of the Knights of Columbus, have been what I have treasured the most in my time as FN. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for allowing me to serve.

Dr. Larry Garetto,
Faithful Navigator
